Research

Bonnie is broadly is interested in identifying the environmental drivers of microbial community structure, and determining how fungal and bacterial community composition feeds back on ecosystem processes. Bonnie is currently studying the influence of altered precipitation on soil enzyme activity, fungal-to-bacterial ratios, and nutrient cycling in both temperate grasslands and tropical forests. Her field sites are along two steep precipitation gradients: the Edwards Plateau in central Texas and the Barva Transect at La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica.
