CONGRATULATIONS TO KYLE MILLER:

"Kyle M. Miller is a new faculty member in the Section of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology.  Dr. Miller was a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Steve Jackson, Gurdon Institute at the University of Cambridge, U.K.  He received a grant from the Cancer Research and Prevention Research Institute (CPRIT) for $2 million as a first-time tenure track faculty member.  Dr. Miller will continue, and further develop, his research into the roles of chromatin in protecting genomic integrity through DNA repair.  

DNA damage represents a formidable challenge to genome stability, a process important for preventing human diseases such as cancer. To protect genetic material, cells have evolved multifaceted systems, collectively termed the DNA damage response (DDR), to detect and repair damaged DNA. To explore this area of research, he employs a combination of chemical, genomic and molecular biology techniques both at the cellular and molecular level in both primary and cancer human tissue culture systems.  He aims to engage in an active research program that applies a multifaceted and diverse approach to these questions in hopes of defining the relationship between chromatin and the DDR, as well as gaining insights into the mechanisms of cancer therapeutic drugs that act at the chromatin and DNA level.
