Research Summary

Laboratory of Protein Therapeutics and Applied Immunology I was trained both in chemical engineering and in molecular biology. Throughout my career I have been studying problems related to physiology and genetics and have also been carrying out the development of technologies for the discovery of protein therapeutics. In the latter field, my lab has developed an array of platform technologies for the screening of combinatorial protein libraries for the isolation of novel antibodies and enzymes. Our studies have led to the discovery of many widely used platform technologies and of several protein therapeutics, one of which is in late stage clinical development and another in the pre-IND phase. Current projects include analysis of the serological and B memory repertoires in human health and disease; engineering of antibody therapeutics that display enhanced ADCC, CDC or that mediate DC activation; discovery, in vitro and animal evaluation and development of therapeutic enzymes for amino acid depletion therapy in auxotrophic cancers.
