Prospective Students 

Requirements for Admission

The application due date for prospective students wishing to enter for the fall semester in the following year is December 1.


Students applying must send materials separately to two places:

arrow The University of Texas at Austin Graduate Admissions Office
1) The Graduate School application.

2) Official copies of the GRE General Test scores and GRE Biology Test scores (and TOEFL scores in the case of international applicants) should be sent directly to the Graduate and International Admissions Office. (cover form). The BIO-GRE score is highly recommended for students who wish to be considered for fellowship support. The Bio-GRE is also highly recommended for all applicants who do not have an undergraduate or masters degree in biology.

**Graduate Application Admission Form - (Please download the EEB Graduate Application Admission form (PDF) complete and email to the EEB office.) ***Tips on filling out the electronic pdf form.

1) Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. Transcripts should be sent to the EEB Program and will be forwarded to the Graduate and International Admissions Office by the Graduate Coordinator.

2) The statement of purpose (downloadable form). This can be submitted when filling out the UT Graduate School application or can be downloaded and sent separately to the EEB Graduate Program.

3) Three letters of recommendation from people able to judge the applicant’s academic potential. When the names and email addresses of an applicant's recommenders are entered on the Texas Common Application, an email message will be sent to each recommender giving instructions on how to submit letters of recommendation on-line. If email is unavailable to a recommender, you may use this link (downloadable form) to print a paper copy of the cover sheet to give to your recommenders. Please ask them to write a letter of recommendation to accompany the form.
