Pursuing a PhD in Microbiology

The Program only accepts applications for the Ph.D. degree in Microbiology to begin in the Fall semester.  We currently do not accept new students into the M.A. program. 

The priority deadline for the coming Fall semester is December 1st.  Applications received after December 1st will be reviewed after all other applications have been looked at. 

RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS
The University of Texas Graduate School recommends a minimum grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.  The average GPA for students accepted into the Microbiology program is 3.5.

The average GRE total for current Microbiology graduate students is 1290, with a standard deviation of 115.  The average GRE Quantitative score is 725 and the average GRE Verbal score is 565.  The range of GRE total scores is from 990 to 1520. 

Note that International applicants are required to have a minimum score of 80 on the internet based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) by the University of Texas at Austin.  The average TOEFL score for current Microbiology  graduate students is 104.

If you hold bachelor's degrees from a U.S. institution or from an institution in another English-only speaking country, you will receive a waiver of the TOEFL.
