Grant Application Support

Cynthia Thompson is an NCURA Certified Research Administrator (May 2010) with several years’ experience submitting and managing research grants at The University of Texas at Austin. She has played a key role in the preparation and submission of numerous proposals - including multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, domestic and international collaborations, as well as institutional and individual training grants – to a myriad of sponsors. She has also facilitated the transfers of existing awards to/from other institutions when a PI has relocated.

Cindy is well acquainted with the submission guidelines and administration procedures for many Federal and State funding sources including NIH, NSF, DoD, NASA, Texas Emerging Technologies Fund, CPRIT, and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. She is equally familiar with many foundations and corporate sponsors such as The Welch Foundation, The Ford Foundation, The American Heart Association, Beacon Technologies, and LabNow.

How Cindy can assist with your proposals/renewals:

  • Provide mentoring, counsel and guidance to PIs, their collaborators, postdocs and students on grant proposal preparation
  • Review and analyze proposal elements for accuracy and compliance with sponsor and university guidelines and regulations
  • Respond to and resolve sponsor requests for additional information/documentation (IRB, IACUC, post-submission updates) and other pre-award assistance
  • Provide post-award administrative support for reporting requirements, requests for carryovers, no-cost extensions
  • Address cost-sharing and effort reporting considerations
  • Liaise with University representatives (OSP, OTC, VP for Research, etc.) and sponsors to address miscellaneous pre-award, competitive, or non-competitive continuation issues and concerns
  • Transfer grants from home institutions for newly-recruited faculty
  • Keep PIs apprised of revisions to sponsor/university guidelines and deadlines (both internal and sponsor)
  • Upload web-based proposal materials, print, copy, collate hardcopy submissions and follow up to verify receipt of same
  • Correspond with Co-Is (at UT and other institutions) to organize, assemble and submit collaborative proposals

Cindy is also available to speak with your administrative staff and/or personnel at OSP and related University Departments with regard to any post-award questions or concerns.
