To: UT Postdocs
Hi - Best wishes as you start another semester.
At UT OGS we are interested
in expanding ways that we can help
serve the postdoc community on the UT campus.
I want to bring the following items to your attention.
1) Some of you have already heard this news, but I wanted to let
everyone know that there is a significant new benefit for postdocs
and other individuals affiliated with UT-Austin.
The University of Texas at Austin through its Office of Graduate
Studies has purchased a sustaining membership from the National
Postdoctoral Association (NPA). This entitles everyone who
is
affiliated with UT-Austin to obtain a free affiliate membership in
the NPA. The instructions and links for doing this are
described here.
2) The OGS has revised its
web siteto improve navigation and
content. There is now a easy link to
"Post doc" on
the upper
navigation bar. You will find information about the NPA and
other
useful links located there. Please send me additional links
that you
think we should add to this site. I also suggest that you also
check
out the "Professional
Development & Community Engagement" section, you will
probably find classes or seminars there that would be of benefit to
you. You may also find information in the on-line version of
"GradLife"
to be useful, especially if you are new to campus. While
many of these are geared towards the larger graduate student
community, you will probably find this information useful.
I would like to add a FAQ section to
the web site and solicit "Questions" and
"Answers" (if you have solved your problem) that you wish
would have
been available to you when you first arrived on campus.
A good example of this would
be how postdoctoral fellows with external
funding got their insurance, parking, email, library access,
etc. Send these to my attention at
m.hackert* (* - @mail.utexas.edu).
3) Encourage your fellow postdocs to
sign up
for the postdoc
listserv (see web site). This is one way that we can
identify and
contact you about things of general interest to postdocs.
Thanks - Marv Hackert
