Mimosa flowers persist as the pod emerges and develops. Although the pod causes some tearing of the corolla of M. texana, evidence of the united petals sufficient for a positive distinction from M. borealis is generally preserved - as can be noted in the pictures on this page. The pubescence of the emerging pods of M. texana is striking, and should contrast with a glabrous pod surface of M. borealis at that stage.
